Drawing his inspiration from fairy tales and children books, Khairul Azmir Shoib projects his works through this language. Learning from the images of magical events from the Al-Quran and tales like Star Wars and those from the Hans Christian Anderson/The Brothers Grimm, Khairul who is fondly known as Meme also create his artwork through the paranormal events he experienced in his family, particularly from his ancestors who were involved with paranormal.
Meme obtained his Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Universiti Teknologi Mara in Shah Alam where he also obtained his Master majoring in Fine Art and Technology. Since then, he has been actively participating in the Malaysian art scene where he has since established himself as one of the most exciting fine artists of his time. Meme’s work is easily recognizable as he draws objects which are usually known by the viewer. Furthermore, the subject matters that he used too projects mystery and often requires the viewer to think and perceive what he is trying to convey. It is in this context that draw many galleries to take notice of Meme’s work as they are highly intriguing and very interesting. He is a recipient of major awards in the art scene while his works have been shown in many private and public galleries around the country.
